Choyo no sechi-e is an imperial court ceremony originated from Chinese intellection of yin-yang concept, and also called as Kikka no En (Chrysanthemum Festival) where people enjoy Chrysanthemum flower viewing, as well as Chrysanthemum flavoured sake tasting. Prayers for longevity are also conducted according to the old legend of extracting a mystic potion from Chrysanthemum flower drips. The ceremony at Horin-ji Temple takes about an hour, including the performance of votive music.

This year, Kurumazaki Shrine and Horin-ji Temple are going to hold the festival. If you visit Arashiyama district on the date, please do not miss it!
