On this weekend, June 24-25, a dance performance co-hosted by five Hanamachi (Maiko and Geiko) districts is to be held at Performing Arts Theater in Kyoto (Kyoto Geijyutu Gekijo Syunjyu za).
Approx. 80 ppl of Maiko and Geiko from five Hanamachi districts, namely Gion-kobu, Miyagawa-cho, Ponto-cho, Kamishichiken, and Gion-tobu, will be performing a pageant of Japanese traditional dance.
Each district is proud of its own history and tradition, and the performances vary accordingly. In addition, 20 ppl of Maiko perform a dance titled “Maiko Festivity”. The event colors the early summer in Kyoto.
